Building Description
The Currents located at 1227 Wellington Street West was built by Windmill Developments. Who would’ve thought an eco-friendly high-rise would mount itself up behind the Great Canadian Theatre Company? The Currents was constructed in 2007 on the corner of Holland Av and Wellington St W. The metal and glass tower is 11 storeys high and contains 44 condominium units, with Great Canadian Theatre Company filling the main floor commercial space. The Currents is LEED-Platinum Certified and showcases sustainable features including harvesting rainwater and solar energy, as well as sustainable harvested low emission finishings. The south facade of the building is covered with a unique solar wall that harvests heat from the sun throughout the cold winter in order to pre-heat air that is used to ventilate the units. This design feature offsets up to 5% of the building’s energy demand during the winter months. The Currents was the first condominium building in the province of Ontario to incorporate a Green Loan which leverages life cycle operating costs savings from energy efficiency in order to invest in cost caving green technologies and designs. The Currents is an 8-minute walk from Tunney’s Pasture O-Train Station.
